I’m vegetarian, will I be able to eat what the family cooks?
Prior to your arrival the family will be informed about your food preferences, etc, and will accommodate for any special requests
I can only speak English, how will I communicate with the locals?
You will have an English guide with you during the day, as well as a pocket reference that will be given to you upon your arrival that will contain basic phrases and vocabulary. If you like, you can have lessons in Karen as well.
Is there internet/phone available for me to use?
At the present time there is one phone available, but no internet. You can also bring your own cell phone and buy a SIM card in Thongpapum before you arrive.
What should I bring with me?
Some useful items you can bring are:
flashlight, rain coat, sensible shoes for trekking, anti-diarrhea medicine, insect repellent, basic clothing and toiletries
What about Malaria?
It is advised that you take some form of Malaria Medication while in Piloki Village. This is available much cheaper in Thailand than in your home country, and is safe to buy here.
Should I get any Vaccines prior to my trip?
Let your family doctor know that you are traveling to this region, and they will let you know which vaccines you need. It is recommended that you be vaccinated for Hepatitus B and Tetanus.
